Hemocyanins are multi-subunit oxygen carrier proteins, found in select species of arthropoda and mollusca. Here, we have purified native hemocyanin from Pila globosa, a freshwater gastropod, verified using mass spectrometry and determined its molecular weight, secondary structure and the spectral properties, using Ultraviolet/visible, Fourier transform infra-red and Circular dichroism spectroscopy. Our results reveal the oligomeric and glycosylated nature of the protein, comprising of 400 kDa subunits, organized predominantly into a thermo-stable, alpha-helical conformation. Further, biochemical assays confirm catecholoxidase-like activity in hemocyanin, which has been used to develop a first-generation optical sensor, for the detection of phenols.
The feed and temperature dependent Linear Alpha olefins (LAOs) product distribution in fast pyrolysis of wax and polyethylene plastic waste was investigated by using pyrolysis‐GC‐MS (Py‐GC‐MS) technique. The optimal pyrolysis temperature to obtain the C6 to C14 LAOs was found to be largely dependent on feed carbon length. The shorter the feed, higher the temperature required and vice versa. The wax with carbon numbers C35 to C60 is an ideal feed stock for LAO production with minimal side products
A novel cost effective tuneable Lewis acid/sulfur scavenging system, comprising of various ratios of group 13 stronger Lewis acid AlCl 3 and transition metal weak Lewis acid FeCl 3 , were developed for oligomerization of alpha olefins to form polyalphaolefins (PAOs). The residence time and temperature dependent oligomer ratio of 1-decene is studied in the presence of Lewis acid catalysts containing various ratios of AlCl 3 /FeCl 3 [AlCl 3 , AlCl 3 /FeCl 3 (0.7:0.3), AlCl 3 /FeCl 3 (0.5:0.5), AlCl 3 / FeCl 3 (0.3:0.7), FeCl 3 ]. The transition metal based weak Lewis acid FeCl 3 yielded oligomer ratio comparable to commercial PAO 2 cst to PAO 6 cst viscosity grade. With an increase in AlCl 3 concentration in the catalyst system, the equilibrium oligomer ratio is shifted towards higher oligomers. With increase in temperature, due to faster termination kinetics in comparison with the propagation, the oligomer ratio is shifted towards lighter dimer and trimer oligomers. The sulfur scavenging abilities of AlCl 3 /FeCl 3 is studied in the presence of model mixture containing thiol in decene. The catalyst system showed superior sulfur scavenging abilities.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
