We propose the real-time processing of the multimedia data using a special purpose processor. We introduce a VLIW architecture and the hardware stack to our multimedia processox Our processor (VLIW-Hardware Stack Processor; in short VLIW-HSP) consist of four hardware stack units (HSUs) and one control unit (CU). In this papeqwe discuss the real-time multimedia data processing using VLIW architecture. We show a design of the VLNV-HSP and several pegormance evaluations using the sopware simulator of the VLIW-HSI? The results of these evaluations indicate that the hardware stack achieves typically 20 % speed improvement. We describe a hardware emulator of the VLIW-HSP using Xilinx FPGA which is necessary for the pe@ormance evaluation at application level.
