Abstract. Lithuanian language has great inflexion, free word order and other features which distinguish it from other languages. This raises a problem of testing for the Lithuanian language validity of findings established for other languages. In the paper, an empirical study of a collection of Lithuanian texts is performed. It is supposed that authors of texts are basic elements of the population under study and its heterogeneity stems out of the heterogeneity of preferences and choices of the authors. An attempt to estimate structural distributions of words in a collection of texts of different authors is made by making use of a simple statistical model and empirical Bayes approach.
Lithuanian language is characterized by imagery, which can be conveyed in a variety of expression means. One of them is metalanguage comments. In this article, metalanguage comments that describe the (emotional) tone of saying are analyzed statistically using corpus of contemporary Lithuanian language. A fitted logistic regression model describes effects which influence the proportion of the metalanguage comments among all occurrences of their basic word in a text.
In the educational process, the special educational needs (for brevity, SEN) are the needs for help and services arising from children’s congenital or acquired disorders and adverse environmental factors. In this article, we analyse statistically the data of pupils with SEN. We create the logistic regression model to describe what determines the proportion of boys among all SEN pupils in certain school.
Lithuanian language is quite complex and flexible, and its significantly complicates the development of efficient algorithms for the automatic processing of Lithuanian texts. For studying text-styles features were selected the universal quantitative characteristics that are unrelated to the text content and can be calculated for any text. This article shows how mathematical Statistics can help to distinguish and interpret the Lithuanian language styles. Studies of the log-linear models show theconnection between the letters and sounds structure and the scientific and fiction.
The article deals with the analysis of the results of problem solution during the mathematics olympiadsof fifth grade students (stage 2) held in Šiauliai city in 2015–2018.
