Introduction: Obesity has been considered an epidemic of global proportions, is a prevalent pathology in various population groups, and is often associated with risk factors for other morbidities, an example of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease including medicinal plants and herbal medicines used for the purpose of reducing body weight. Phytotherapy and the use of medicinal plants have shown a viable and effective alternative as aids in body weight reduction processes. That choice is based on the mechanism of action that can favor a thermogenic, sacietogenic action and especially as lipase inhibitors. For the two data colLected through interviews with nutritionists to those who answered aspects listed through semistructured questionnaires in the city of Feira de Santana-Ba. Conclusion: According to the results obtained during the present study, it was found that herbal medicine and the use of medicinal plants proved the efficacy, achieving satisfactory results in body weight reduction processes. Stressing that the treatment of a pathology of multifactorial origin suggests that the therapy should be chosen as comprehensive as possible.
