This paper aims to provide various insights on innovative practices followed by hospitality industry representing samples of hotels and restaurants operating in Manipal and Udupi, in Karnataka, whereby the industry is transforming itself to the new technological application and digital marketing aspects in day to day operation, revenue management, capacity utilization .The research focuses on the traditional hotels and lodging equipping to the new practices in recent years with different web portal and other marketing aggregators. The paper has facts and from the existing literature and other reports. Primary data collection involving face to face conversations with the Managers of the hotels and the restaurant through questionnaires and in depth interview method. Secondary data includes webpages of online travel aggregators and hospitality firms. Some of the key emerging areas are role of ecommerce, competitive advantage, leverage of technology and change management, operational efficiency. The paper also suggests that it is important to understand how innovations are being managed across different areas of operations in hospitality industry and focuses on aspects of hurdles and barriers faced by the managers towards implementation of innovative ideas and processes. Keyword: New service design, technological adoption, service operational efficiency, capacity utilization, barriers and complexity faced in adopting new technology, revenue managementPractical Implications: Innovation is the order of the day, Udupi district has made a prominent name in the hotel industry all over the world in respect of restaurants and south Indian cuisines and also as a temple place and as an education hub. This paper is of interest to the hoteliers and management students with reference to innovative practices undertaken by hotels and lodging in this location which is categorized into tier 3 cities by adopting technological aspects in day to day operations and also collaboration with online and other marketing aggregators for their revenue management and capacity utilization and over all operational efficiency in general.Originality/Value: This paper has been written after extensive literature references in the related area, further all the papers in this theme issue were written after several rounds of interaction with practitioners to include real-time, relevant and contemporary data.
Background The death rate was overwhelmingly high during COVID 19 pandemic with very few treatment options and the main cause leading to death being the cytokine storm.Monoclonal antibodies like Tocilizumab ( IL-6 receptor inhibitor) was said to be an effective treatment option in severe COVID 19 patients with increased inammatory markers. Objectives To determine the outcome of monoclonal antibodies in COVID 19 patients. To determine the risk of mechanical ventilation in patients who are treated with monoclonal antibodies in COVID 19 patients. Methods A retrospective study conduction during the second wave of COVID 19 in India (Sri Devraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka, Kolar, Karnataka ) . The study includes 2 groups - one treated with Tocilizumab and the other not treated with Tocilizumab. Chi-square test or Fischer's exact test (for 2x2 tables only) was used as test of signicance for qualitative data. Results 106 patients observed were divided into 2 groups of 53 ensuring similar baseline characteristics. While one group of 53 was treated with IV Tocilizumab (TCZ group) and the other group was not treated (Non - TCZ group). Signicant difference was found with regard to mortality (p value - 0.032) in the TCZ and Non TCZ groups (Mortality rate - 41.5% vs 62.3% ). Additionally while the patients who needed invasive ventilation in Tocilizumab was lower than that of Non Toclizumab group (52.8 % vs 71.7 %) it was not statistically signicant (p = 0.071). Conclusion Based on the observations in this study, patients treated with Tocilizumab had signicantly better survival rate .The impact of Tocilizumab on the risk of mechanical ventilation in this Cohort is not conclusive.
ABSTRACT:We report a case who presented with respiratory distress after trauma that was treated for a left-sided haemopneumothorax. This was finally diagnosed as giant diaphragmatic hernia with tension gastrothorax. The diagnostic difficulties and complications of wrong diagnosis are discussed.
Interlacing is a commonly used technique for doubling the perceived frame rate without adding bandwidth in television broadcasting and video recording. During playback, however, it exhibits disturbing visual artifacts such as flickering and combing. As a result in modern display devices, video deinterlacing is used where the interlaced video format is converted to progressive scan format to overcome the limitations of interlaced video. This conversion is achieved through interpolating interlaced video. Current deinterlacing approaches either neglect temporal information for real-time performance but poor visual quality, or estimate motion for better deinterlacing but higher computational cost. This paper focuses on surveying the deinterlacing algorithms which apply both spatial and temporal-based methods and focus on different aspects of both motion-adaptive, non-motion adaptive, and the time complexity through these implementations.
