Biosolids Loading -Not Up In The Air identifies advantages and disadvantages of available biosolids loading technologies. Storage bin shapes and design are addressed as the critical issues. The replacement of the typical-hopper bottomed storage bin with the flat-bottomed hopper reduced the height, and increased the storage capacity of the facility. It also allowed the entire storage to be located over the loading facilities, which eliminated the need for double conveyance facilities that were required at other facilities to store similar volumes. Cake pumps are also being installed to improve systems performance, reliability, and odor control. This paper is based on the new 1,200 cubic yard storage and loading facility that is now under construction at Orange County Sanitation Districts, Plant 2, that will be placed in operation in late 2002.
