halassemia is a Greek word that taken from two words, Thalassa means Sea and Emia means blood, thus called Mediterranean anemia or Cooley's anemia, anemia in Persian. Thalassemia is a congenital hemolytic disease that inherited according to Mendel's laws. The first an American scientist named Dr. Cooley defined it's to other in1925. In this synthesis and defective Hb produce. In erythroid precursors additional chains don't pair together, this synthesis that this leads unbalanced Hb chain damage and lyse cells (1). If beta chain is defective, called beta thalassemia and if alpha chain is defective, called alpha thalassemia. Beta-thalassemia syndromes are a group of hereditary blood disorders characterized by reduced or absent beta-globin chains expression that T
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is increased proliferation of B-cells with peripheral blood and bone marrow involvement, which is usually observed in older people. Genetic mutations, epigenetic changes and miRs play a role in CLL pathogenesis. Del 11q, del l17q, del 6q, trisomy 12, p53 and IgVH mutations are the most important genetic changes in CLL. Deletion of miR-15a and miR-16a can increase bcl2 gene expression, miR-29 and miR-181 deletions decrease the expression of TCL1, and miR-146a deletion prevents tumor metastasis. Epigenetic changes such as hypo- and hypermethylation, ubiquitination, hypo- and hyperacetylation of gene promoters involved in CLL pathogenesis can also play a role in CLL. Expression of CD38 and ZAP70, presence or absence of mutation in IgVH and P53 mutation are among the factors involved in CLL prognosis. Use of monoclonal antibodies against surface markers of B-cells like anti-CD20 as well as tyrosine kinase inhibitors are the most important therapeutic approaches for CLL.
Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies among Iranian women. Nowadays, the use of traditional medicinal plants has emerged as a tempting complementary to the treatment of breast cancer due to minimal side effects and less documented drug resistance. The aim of this study was to examine the anticancer effects of the essential oils of red clover and mature fruit of Bassia scoparia on MCF-7 cells. Methods: Essential oils were extracted from Bassia scoparia and red clover plants, by a Clevenger condenser and mass spectrometry was performed for qualitative analysis, then MCF-7 and HU02 cells were treated with different concentrations of these essential oils at different time intervals. The viability of cells was measured by the MTT assay. The results were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA and Tukey′s test. Results: Essential oils of Kochia scoparia and red clover have cytotoxic effects on MCF7 cells. The MTT analysis showed decreased cell viability percentage in treated cells (P < 0.05). In addition, the microscopic examination of cells treated with essential oils revealed morphological changes of apoptotic cells in MCF-7 cells. Conclusions: The findings of this study show that essential oils of Bassia scoparia and Red clover have toxic and anticancer effects on MCF-7 cells.
Background: In iron deficiency anemia (IDA), serum ferritin level is decreased and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) is increased Objectives: In this study the relationship between H. pylori infection and iron deficiency anemia were studied. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study. TIBC and ferritin levels were measured in 133 patients, suspected to H. pylori infection, then serum levels of IgM and IgG antibody against H. pylori infection were measured Results: From 133 patients, 97 were females (72.93%) and 36 males (28.07%), 36 of them (23 women and 13 men) have a TIBC levels more than 400 ug/dL and ferritin levels were less than 12ng/dL. Twenty patients had IgG antibodies and 5 patients had IgM against H. pylori.
Conclusions:The results show the association between H. pylori infection and increased levels of TIBC and decreased serum ferritin.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
