An F statistic due to Rao (1951,1973) tests uniform mixed linear restrictions in the multivariateregression model. In combination with a generalization of the Bera-Evans-Savin exact functional relationship between the W, LR, and LM statistics, Rao's F serves to unify a number of exact test procedures commonly applied in disparate empirical literatures. Examples in demand analysis and asset pricing are provided. The availability of exact tests of restrictions in certain nonlinear models when the model is linear under the null, originally explored by Milliken-Graybill (1970), is extended to multivariate regression. Generalized RESET, J-, and Hausman-Wu tests are resented. As an extension of Dufour (1989), bounds tests exist for nonlinear and inequality restrictions. Applications include conservative bound tests for symmetry or negativity of the substitution matrix in demand systems.exact test, multivariate regression,
. The hypothesis that there is a positive relationship between violence and game attendance in the National Hockey League is tested; and the implications of the results for policies aimed at rectifying the violence considered. The empirical analysis, which is based principally on game by game data for the 1989/90 season, confirms the positive relationship, although it occurs mainly in American, not Canadian, cities. Since there is an incentive for teams to promote violence and because the legal system normally only prosecutes players not teams, the standard methods used to control violence—self regulation and the judicial process—are unlikely to work. Consideration should, therefore, be given to more direct control of violence.
Although a signijicant econometric literature is concerned with the implicit demand for the attributes of differentiated goods in hedonic pricing models, the literature has developed independently of modern econometric demand analysis. This study estimates factor demand systems using data on player characteristics employed by Major League Baseball teams, and associated estimated hedonic prices. It is found that the implicit demand for player attributes by teams is largely consistent with the predictions of the neoclassical theory of the firm. in contrast to the results often obtained by empirical demand studies using conventional data sets. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
