Hydrogen bonding from a urea group to hydrogen bond acceptor anions can adopt either R 1 2 (6) or R 2 2 (8) motifs depending on the proximity of hydrogen bond acceptor atoms. However, for the sterically bulky and weaker hydrogen bond acceptor triflate anion, hydrogen bond acceptor polymorphism is observed.

The interplay of anion binding, intra- and intermolecular hydrogen boning patterns in a range of receptors and sensors for chloride anion are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
