Microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) was introduced to evaluate the hydrophobicity of various kinds of compounds. Using a separation solution consisting of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), 1-butanol, heptane, and a borate-phosphate buffer, the logarithm of the capacity factors, which is proportional to the free energy of transfer into the microemulsion, was highly correlated with the logarithm of the octanol/water partition coefficients (log Pow) rather than with that of the SDS micelle/ water partition coefficients measured by micellar electrokinetic chromatography. Even for compounds with hydrogen bond accepting or donating sites, the correlation
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
