~ ~~Solid-state integrated probe based on ionsensitive, field-effect transistors has been used for determination of sodium chloride in sweat for diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. This probe can yield useful clinical data faster and with higher reliability than the conventional titration test. A battery-powered instrument that converts the differential current into milliequivalents of sodium chloride has been constructed. It is possible to perform the diagnosis without inducing sweating with pilocarpine. It is suggested that similar probes with multisensing capability can be used for analysis of other surface body fluids.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
