There were 211,000 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims going to Mecca through 11 main airports in 2015 who were at risk of contracting the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). We aimed to find out whether there was any occurrence of MERS-CoV by performing screening on 28,197 returning pilgrims. Those with a body temperature of > 38 °C and respiratory symptoms were sent to the airport clinic to have an oropharyngeal swab and a bacterial culture. Fifteen pilgrims had fever (> 38 °C) accompanied by respiratory symptoms; of these, 12 patients were diagnosed with upper and lower respiratory tract infections and three patients with pneumonia. However, none of them were found to be infected with MERS-CoV. The bacterial cultures showed evidence of normal flora growth.
Although numerous studies have proven the effectiveness of self-healing technologies in concrete, its practical application is limited to only few trials. One of the reasons lies in the lack of self-healing in-situ non-destructive evaluation methods as opposed to invasive and extensive laboratory testing. In this study, a novel Terahertz (THz) wave imaging technique is proposed as a simple, non-destructive, and non-contact measurement methodology to quantitatively evaluate the selfhealing effectiveness of cementitious materials. Experiments were conducted in fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (FRCC), which confirmed self-healing performance based on a combination of stimulated autogenous and autonomous healing by using supplementary cementitious materials (FRCC), and PVA fibers; the self-healing index was also calculated by using novel THz wave measurement and compared with existing evaluation methods. Simultaneously, sorptivity test and microstructural characterization on damaged and healed specimens were conducted as the conventional methods. As a result, the proposed THz imaging successfully quantified the self-healing performance on cementitious samples. Also, a correlation between the recovery rate (cracked/healed) measured by sorptivity test and THz wave imaging was defined.
The COVID-19 pandemic since 2020, the lecture format of universities has had to undergo a significant change. In lectures on Building Construction, construction site tours are often provided. However, in the pandemic situation, it is impossible to be held in the same way as before. In this paper, we report examples of online site tours using two cameras with different view angles. Here, we used a web service that is intended for interactive communication. As a result, the promising potential of online site tours has been confirmed.
