The Berlin Situation Medical Education in Germany is formalised by federal law (Approbationsordnung fuer Aerzte, last edition 2002)'). Until 2003 medical education in Berlin was provided by the Medical School of Charite (Humboldt University) and Klinikum Benjamin Franklin (Free University). On average the two Medical Schools trained 540 students per year.
