Jasmonic acid (JA) is a well-known lipid-derived signaling molecule that is produced by certain bacteria, fungi, and plants. It plays an important role in the induction of Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR) in plants. The biosynthesis and function of JA from plants has been well documented, but the information on this molecule is still scarce for microorganisms. This chapter summarizes the knowledge on the occurrence of jasmonates from plants as well as microbial culture media and the culture conditions for optimal JA production as an alternative source for the production of these valuable metabolites.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
