The distribution of the ventral pancreas after fusion was considered as a dorsal portion of the head containing the area surrounding the intrapancreatic common bile duct and the uncinate process from the embryological point of view and by the distribution of “Irregularly shaped Islets”. These special islets were not uniform in shape and contained few A, B, and D cells and many argyrophil cells with Grimelius stain. In some cases the ventral pancreas was identified macroscopically from the dorsal one by the presence of the smaller and closely packed lobuli. As for the differences of both anlagen, we emphasized “the irregularly shaped islets” and scantier fat in the ventral pancreas.
An extremely rare case of solitary fibrous tumor of the prostate is presented. The patient underwent a radical retropubic prostatectomy and has remained well with no evidence of recurrence during the last 18 months. This is the fifth reported case of such a lesion arising in the prostate.
The occurrence of adrenal myelolipomas is reported in an untreated patient with congenital adrenal 21-hydroxylase deficiency. Laparotomy demonstrated the presence of two lesions, a large tumor which arose from an ectopic adrenal cortex and a smaller tumor in the left adrenal gland. Six cases of adrenal myelolipomas and congenital adrenal hyperplasia have been reported in the literature. All patients were associated with excessive ACTH secretion for a long period of time. The relative frequency of this association, coupled with the observation by Selye and Stone (Am J Pathol 26:211, 1950) that anterior pituitary extracts cause myelolipomatous changes in rats, may indicate a possible role for ACTH in the development of myelolipomas. A case of intracerebellar hematoma in infancy is reported. Although the clinical course and computed tomographic appearances suggested a cerebellar tumor, intraoperative and microscopic investigations demonstrated a chronic expanding hematoma enlarging with repeated hemorrhages inside the capsule. The differential diagnosis of this entity is discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
