A fiber-to-tapered planar waveguide (PWG) coupler whose resonance wavelength and depth can be mechanically tuned is proposed and demonstrated. The resonance wavelength is controlled by changing the PWG thickness, while the extinction ratio is controlled by varying the coupling length between the fiber and the PWG. The effect of PWG thickness variation along the fiber direction on the resonance sharpness is also investigated. The fabrication techniques and experimental results are presented in detail, along with a short discussion on the potential applications of the device.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
