The aim of this study was to evaluate the readability and suitability of patients' education materials on DM. A total of 34 materials on DM from public health centers, general hospitals, and internet web sites were evaluated for readability by 'graded system of vocabulary', and suitability by 'The Korean version of SAM(Suitability Assessment of Materials)'. On the average, 28.3% of 1st grade reading level words, 27.1% of 5th grade level and over were included in educational materials. For suitability, 6(17.6%) were judged superior, 20(58.8%) adequate, 8(23.6%) inadequate. The reading level of the materials was higher than the recommended reading level(6th grade reading level). For suitability, most of materials were inadequate in some of items such as 'summary or review included', 'context given', 'interaction used'. It is proposed that in the development of patients' educational materials, health literacy of target population should be considered.
Scale, comfort & safety (t=2.876, p=.005), feeding (t=2.281, p=.024), infant's behavior (t=2.395, p=.018), hygiene control (t=2.978, p=.003), p<.001) and confidence in newborn care showed significant total scores (t=2.997, p=.003). Based on the Fatigue Continuum Form, the physical, psychological, and neurosensory fatigue scores and the total fatigue score did not show any statistical significance in each area (t=1.169, p=..244)(t=1.941, p=.054)(t=1.863, p=.064)(t=1.897, p=.060). The present findings can be applied as the reference data conducive to correcting the myth among puerperal mothers that rooming-in will increase the postnatal fatigue and supporting the benefits of rooming-in.
The aim of this study is to develop strategies activating long-term care visiting nursing. The research design was a descriptive survey study, and the data were collected from the visiting nursing center managers, customers, and long-term care insurance staffs. The major results were as follows. To activate the long-term care visiting nursing, first, the basic nursing care for ensuring sustainable health management has to be included. Second, the visiting nursing must be designated as mandatory use in standard guideline for using long-term care services.Third, the insurance pricing of visiting nursing must be based on the cost of visiting nursing.And, last, using a visiting nursing must be possible without a doctor's order sheet, when it is required for the assessment of patient's health status.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and analyze the effectiveness of an education program counseling manual (EPCM) for community-based visiting nurses. Methods: Seventy-eight of community-based visiting nurses was enrolled in this study. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the χ2-test, and the paired t-test in SPSS version 18.0. Results: Nurses had higher mean scores for counselor activity self-efficacy: skill self-efficacy, session management self-efficacy and counseling challenges self-efficacy, after EPCM than before EPCM. Significant differences were found after applying the EPCM. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the EPCM is effective at improving counselor self-efficacy of community-based visiting nurses.■ keyword :|Counseling|Visiting Nurses|Education Program|
The aim of this study was to explore relations among the decision making style, self leadership and communication competence of visiting nurses. The research design was a descriptive survey study, and 219 people were selected through convenience sampling among the visiting nurses who worked in the 28 community based health care centers. The most frequent decision making style of visiting nurses was a rational style. The scores of self leadership and communication competence of visiting nurses were also showed the highest score when the visiting nurse had a rational decision making style. The statistical significant correlations were found among the decision making style, self leadership and communication competence. The results of this study were useful to develop jop-training programs for visiting nurses to enhance their problem-solving abilities. We suggest more various education programs to increase the visiting nurse's self leadership and communication competence will be implemented and refined protocols according to situations will be developed, too.
