Results from analyzing the cyclone paths over East Asia for the period 1997−2009 and the variability in chemical composition of atmospheric precipitation in Primorskii Krai are discussed. It is shown that southwesterly cyclones over Primorskii Krai became more frequent during the time period under consideration. The increase in the number of cyclones forming in the polluted atmosphere of urbanized areas in North-Eastern Asia led to an increase in acid deposition, which is confirmed by data from the international acid deposition monitoring stations of the international EANET network.
Computation of the wind speed at a given station is performed via interpretation of the hydrodynamic modelling results using the multiple regression method. The a priori model parameters-pressure and thermal gradients, the Laplace operator at the standard levels of the lower and middle troposphere, and others-were obtained from reanalysis. The wind speed at observation times at Vladivostok station was used as a dependent variable. Preliminary classifying of the vector of predictors in accordance to the surface pressure gradient has been done. This procedure, first of all, allowed us to decrease variability of the friction force impact on the wind speed formation for a given class. Experiments, which were performed with the different sets of parameters and various classification schemes, allowed selecting models that provide computation results comparable to the known methods of wind speed computation at a given station.
Atmospheric processes over the Far East of Russia and the North-West Pacific are investigated for understanding the reasons of the rainfall over the Amur basin in the summer of 2013, extreme by its duration and intensity, that has caused catastrophic flood in the middle and lower flow of the Amur River. On the base of detailed analysis of the air circulation, the reasons of such rainy weather are analyzed, and recommendations for its prediction are proposed. The circulation is described quantitatively by several parameters, as average atmospheric pressure at the sea level, geopotential height, air temperature, indices of integrated air transfer over certain areas, and indices of cyclonic activity over the Amur basin and tropical zone. Prevailing pressure systems are revealed, which are responsible for formation of precipitation fields over the Amur basin. In particular, the long and intense rains over the Amur basin in May-August of 2013 were caused by cyclones propagating along the stable atmospheric frontal zone located in this area. They were blocked by the baric ridge over the Okhotsk Sea, so the deep and stable atmosphere depression (Far-Eastern Low) was formed over the middle and lower flow of the Amur in July-August of 2013 with the negative pressure anomaly > 1.7σ (standard deviation), where the cyclones deepened below than usually (on average in 5 hPa below). This depression was maintained by intensive meridional air transfer in the troposphere over East Asia that transported heat and moisture from the tropical zone. This transfer was reasoned by huge reserves of moisture, latent and sensible heat over southeastern Asia that was formed by abnormally strong equatorial trade-winds and unusually frequent tropical cyclones, mostly going by eastern trajectories because of strong western spur of the Hawaiian High that blocked their ways. All these patterns were presumably conditioned by strengthening of the Hawaiian High. As the result of these large-scale circumstances, the air mass with tropical properties was moved to temperate latitudes, and cyclones converted them to heavy rains just following to their usual paths across the Amur basin.
TINRO. -2017. -Vol. 190. -P. 159-166. Wind regime at the Okhotsk Sea coast is considered on the base of anemometer data obtained by the Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia since early 1970s (vanes were used for the wind rate measurements before). Climatic-scale trends in wind direction and wind rate are revealed for the 43 years period. The wind rate has a tendency to decreasing in all seasons, in spite of seasonal change of the dominant direction, with the regime shift in the late 1980s. However, the main patterns of the atmospheric circulation over the Okhotsk Sea have changed slightly, so the direction of the prevailing winds is rather stable: weakening of the zonal wind component in winter was observed for several stations in the late 1990s -early 2000s only and insignificant weakening of the meridional (south) wind component occurred in summer.Key words: climatic trend, wind regime, Okhotsk Sea, atmospheric circulation, coastal meteorological station.
