NiYP alloy coatings were prepared on the surface of sintered NdFeB magnets by electroless composite plating. The effects of Y 3þ concentration on the deposition rate, surface morphologies, element contents and corrosion resistance were investigated. The results showed that the deposition rate of NiYP alloy coatings decreased with the increasing Y 3þ concentration. A thin NiYP film with adsorbed rare earth yttrium could be formed at higher concentration, which reduced the number of catalytic sites on the surface of intered NdFeB magnets. With the increase in Y 3þ concentration up to 6 mmol L 21 , the self-corrosion potential E corr of the electroless NiYP coatings in 3.5%NaCl solution increased from 2672 to 2513 mV, and the self-corrosion current density I corr decreased from 28.81 to 1.15 mA cm 22 . The mechanisms of corrosion resistance of the electroless NiYP coatings modified by Y 3þ addition were discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
