The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of skipping rope training on resting heart rate and cardio-respiratory endurance among soccer players. A total of forty male soccer players (age 19 – 24 years) were selected from Manipur University, Imphal, Manipur (India) who participated in the national-level competition. The subjects were randomly assigned into two equal groups, the experimental group (n=20) and the control group (n=20). The groups were measured before the intervention with resting heart rate and cardio-respiratory endurance to find out the overall significant effect among soccer players. After the initial test, the subjects of the experimental group participated in a supervised skipping rope training program, where no special exercise was administered to the control group. Skipping rope training programs were carried out for a period of six weeks, five days of training (Monday to Friday), and 60 minutes for each session. The experimental group showed improved scores in resting heart rate and cardio-respiratory endurance compared to the control group (p<0.05). The mean of the resting heart rate for the pre-test and post-test of the experimental group were 58.60 and 56.45 respectively. The values of the cardio-respiratory endurance were 72.41 and 80.47 respectively. The significant improvement in skipping rope training of the experimental group might be due to the six weeks of the soccer players. Skipping rope trainprogramsgram significantly improved physiological variables such as resting heart rate and motor fitness variables such as cardio-respiratory endurance of the male soccer players. An investigation was carried out to evaluate the performance of four exotic rose cultivars (Sphinix Gold, Upper Class, Bordeaux andAvalanche) under protected condition in sub-tropical hills of Nagaland. High coefficient of variation both at genotypic and phenotypic level couple with high heritability and genetic advance for thorn density per inch. The genotypic correlation coefficient studies reveal that plant height at first flower flush was positively and significantly correlated with plant spread EW/NS direction, thorn density per inch and diameter of flower bud.Significant positive association of total number of petals per flower was revealed with plant spread EW/NS direction. Length of the sprouted bud was similarly a significant positive correlation with diameter of flower bud and thorn density per inch, length of the sprouted bud and days taken to bud sprouting. Phenotypic correlations of plant height at first flower flush with number of branches per plant, thorn density per inch. Similarly a significant positive correlation was observed between diameter of flower and length of the sprouted bud. Significant positive correlation also existed between number of flower per plant and number of petal per flower. Since there is a highly positive association among this component character, the selection of this particular character for improvement of any cultivars shall automatically influence other character in desirable direction. Among the cultivars studied the Sphinix Gold,Upper Class and Bordeaux are suitable for commercial cultivation under Nagaland condition.
On- farm trail was conducted in Longleng district of Nagaland during 2016-17 to compare the phonological development and production potential of four varieties of gerbera viz. Silvester, Stanza, Rosalin and Brilliance at farmers field under naturally ventilated polyhouse conditionin Longleng District of Nagaland. Result revealed that Rosalin recorded maximum leaf length (49.68 cm), plant spread (57.82 cm), flower diameter (12.04 cm), diameter of trans floret (7.52 cm), diameter of disc floret (3.4 cm), Peduncle diameter (0.8 cm), length of ray floret (5.44 cm), width of ray floret (1.12 cm), whereas Stanza recorded maximum leaf breadth (19.76 cm), no. of ray floret (73.4 nos.), vase life (13.2 days), Silvester recorded maximum in plant height (52.04 cm), no. of leaf/plant (19.6 nos.) and no. of suckers /plant (2.2 nos.), no. of flowers/plant (8.4 nos.) and Brilliance recorded maximum Peduncle length (70.96 cm). Vase life of flower was recorded significantly higherin Stanza (13.2 days) as compared to other cultivars and minimum with Brilliance (10.8 days). Rosalin and Stanza appears to be the best cultivars under Longleng climatic condition as compared to Silvester and Brilliance in terms of vegetative growth and flowering quality characters.
