The article substantiates a new integrated approach to the development of rural tourism, contributing to the sustainable development of rural areas. The authors analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the further development of agritourism, as well as opportunities and threats. Using a common indicator of the joint development of agriculture and rural tourism, the researchers assessed the opportunities for sustainable development of rural areas in Russia. As a result of research, the authors proposed a concept for the development of agritourism in Russia.
The article studies the regulatory and legal framework of rural tourism in the Kostroma region. It analyzes the resource potential of the development of agricultural tourism in the region under consideration, and substantiates the relevance of the development of rural (agricultural) tourism. The authors analyze the natural, cultural, historical and infrastructural potential of tourism development in the Kostroma region, and consider the main negative factors affecting the development of rural (agricultural) tourism. Based on the analysis of the tourist potential, the authors identified the regions with the highest and the lowest potential for the development of agritourism and proposed directions for the development of the most promising types of tourism in the Kostroma region, taking into account the characteristics of the region.
The article discusses in detail the direct and indirect contribution of tourism to the country’s economy. Much attention is paid to indirect contributions to related industries. The author analyzes the history of development of the methodology for determining the multiplicative effect of tourism in related industries, and offers his own methodology for assessing the contribution of agricultural tourism to the sustainable development of Russia. The article highlights the difficulties in data collection and objectivity in the agricultural sector. Using a practical example, the author interprets data on the direct and indirect contribution of agrotourism to the Russian economy. At the end of the study, specific ways to solve the existing problem of assessing the contribution of agrotourism to the country’s economy are proposed.
