The ubiquitous computer! Do you realize that there may be a great variety of uses of a microcomputer in your classroom? Indeed. if we view the computer a a tool, or as a context for many differing activities, then we must learn how to choose our uses of it. This will require that we know the possible option, and have some rationales for our choices.
Members of the NCTM are certainly familiar with the excellent volume produced as the Council's yearbook. These yearbooks continue to serve as significant references throughout the varied facets of mathematical education. The dedicated leadership of the yearbook editors and the unselfish contributions of many author have assured the high quality we have come to expect as each of the thirty-seven yearbooks has been released. Long and meticulous planning and production have often resulted in a considerable time lag between the inception of a theme and the presentation to the Council by the editor at an annual meeting. At the same time, the costs of production have increased, driving up the price paid by members. Acting under its charge, the Publication Committee has kept a close watch on these developments.
