One Board member communicated that he appreciated the content of Approaches to Understanding Human Behavior When Investigating Incidents in Academic Chemical Laboratories, but found the language difficult despite his strong English skills. The journal's Associate Editors, also non-native English speakers, noted that when safety papers go beyond technical issues to address topics like safety culture, human factors, and organizational issues, the language is more difficult for them as well. ACS Chemical Health & Safety addresses all aspects of safety, not just chemicals and equipment, so with the author's approval, we decided to work with a technical writer and publish this plain English summary of Ronald McLeod's paper on human behavior, to make the topic more accessible to our diverse audience.
