A 100 Gbit/s/λ PAM-4 fiber link with an optical budget of 30 dB and 20 km fiber reach is achieved in real time experiments. This is compliant with class A (20 dB) point to point (PtP) applications as mobile fronthaul for example, and with class N1 (29 dB) point to multipoint (PtMP) for residential market. We used an integrated externally modulated laser, an analog pre-equalizer, an optical booster amplifier and/or non-filtered preamplifier and direct detection without any digital signal processing (whether real-time or offline).
The frequency chirping properties of silicon ring resonator modulators (RRMs) are experimentally investigated under sinusoidal modulation. The modulated electric field at the output of an RRM is measured in the time domain thanks to a coherent detection system. The power and phase waveforms are then analyzed in terms of their temporal phase and amplitude for different wavelength detunings between the optical source and the resonance and for different modulation frequencies. The evolution of the frequency chirp, described through a peak-topeak chirp parameter, is quantified as a function of wavelength detuning and modulation frequency for the first time.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
