As no linear correlation could be found between two of the five questions, a process constant mathematical value could not be identified. This indicates that mail survey and phone survey respondents have different attitudes that cannot be adjusted because of methodological measurement effects.

The American Heart Association advises that children with congenital heart disease and a history of penicillin sensitivity receive erythromycin before and after dental procedures to prevent bacterial endocarditis.1 A child managed in accordance with these guidelines subsequently developed a brain abscess caused by an organism resistant to erythromycin. His case and management form the basis of this report. CASE REPORT An 8-year-old Caucasian male with cyanotic congenital heart disease (type 4 truncus arteriosus and ventriculoseptal defect) was hospitalized following a two minute focal, left-sided seizure.
