Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) are very attractive colloidal carrier systems for skin applications due to their various desirable effects on skin besides the characteristics of a colloidal carrier system.[1] Studies on solid lipid nanoparticles indicate that this system could potentially be used as a delivery system with improved drug entrapment efficiency and controlled drug release for hydrophilic actives. This review paper provides an overview on the performance of solid lipid nanoparticles as carriers of hydrophilic drugs for topical delivery.
