This paper aims to analyze the validity of a quantitative instrument to identify what attracts someone to volunteer work, as well as what makes them stay and what makes them quit such an activity. The theoretical framework lists aspects related to volunteer work, which is followed by a discussion on models of analysis of volunteer motivation. As to the objectives, this research is descriptive, since it presents the analysis of the validity of a quantitative instrument that seeks to understand and describe the reasons for volunteering at the Pastoral da Criança, a Brazilian NGO. This instrument is based on theoretical ideas by Souza, Medeiros and Fernandes (2006). Reliability -Cronbach's Alpha -reached values between 0.7 and 0.8. Regarding Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy a good index was also obtained: 0.74. Despite the good results of reliability and sampling adequacy of factor analysis, none of the variables resulted in the expected combination, namely: indicators versus profile. It is necessary to improve the semantic meaning of certain factors, or even increase the number of indicators so as to generate additional correlations among them. Keywords
Objective: The present technical report aimed at presenting a research agenda regarding the influence of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) on academic research about export, internationalisation, and foreign trade for academia, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders. Method: We pursued a case study approach divided in a two-stage process. Firstly, we systematically reviewed 35 articles related to ApexBrasil’s influence on scientific research. Secondly, we analysed official documents and conferences, besides consulting a panel of specialists from ApexBrasil, in order to propose the research agenda. Main Results: Firstly, the results suggested that the knowledge about ApexBrasil’s influence on scientific research is scattered in different journals, researchers, and themes; furthermore, many studies do not have an impact on the international academy. Secondly, based on the data analysed, we propose a research agenda that might narrow the gap between ApexBrasil, academia, and other stakeholders. Relevance / Originality: The findings suggest unique insights about how and to what extent ApexBrasil’s influence is reported by scientific research and show which themes for future investigations are aligned with the agency’s interests, as well as the interests of its stakeholders in a scenario affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Theoretical / Methodological Contributions: Our main contributions consist in a research agenda proposal based on theoretical and practical perspectives developed as a technical report. By doing so, we seek to raise awareness of academia, practitioners, and policymakers about ApexBrasil’s influence and potential relevance for international business studies, whilst pointing out important research gaps in the literature and potential new research avenues.
Despite being extensively studied, the organizational commitment still remains in the research agenda due to a lack of consensus on conceptual and structural issues. Therefore, this research proposed to refine the Organizational Commitment Bases Scale (EBACO) in search for an instrument with better psychometric properties and a better theoretical adjustment. The research was divided into two phases, the first one was eminently exploratory, carried out with 149 observations, and evaluated the EBACO's psychometric fitting with the reduction of two bases. The second phase, confirmatory, occurred in 45 organizations-27 public and 18 private, with 812 observations. The confirmatory factor analysis was adopted to evaluate the psychometric properties and the theoretical adequacy of the refined model. The results indicated that with five dimensions the EBACO model presented higher levels of KMO, Cronbach's Alpha, and explained variance. It was also verified that the model discussed obtained adequate values of the goodness of fit indexes χ²/df, RMSEA, CFI, TLI and RMR. Finally, it was verified that the refined model, EBACO-R, presented a convergent validity, ensuring a greater suitability of the scale to the theory. Furthermore, the model refinement, excluding the bases, contributes to the discussion by Osigweh (1989) about the 'concept stretching' commitment.
Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo identificar as dimensões intervenientes na produtividade e no Planejamento da Força de Trabalho -PFT tema que vem ganhando relevância em função das restrições de recursos e da necessidade de se aprimorar a qualidade e a celeridade dos serviços prestados pelas organizações públicas à população. Pela escassez de literatura na área de PFT, optou-se pela realização de um estudo exploratório. Foi adotado estudo de caso num Tribunal de Justiça estadual brasileiro no qual foi aplicado questionário para uma amostra aleatória simples com servidores e chefes de secretaria. Foram obtidas 1.072 observações válidas após tratamento dos dados com a exclusão dos casos com missings values ou outliers (de um total aproximado de 1.650 servidores), possibilitando nível de confiança de 99% e erro amostral inferior a 5%. A análise foi realizada por meio das técnicas de análise fatorial, análise de confiabilidade (alpha de Cronbach) e análise de correlação de Pearson. Do instrumento composto inicialmente por 32 variáveis do tipo Likert de seis pontos, elaboradas com base na revisão da literatura, 18 apresentaram contribuição relevante para permanecerem no modelo exploratório após as análises. Os resultados apontaram para a existência de quatro dimensões intervenientes na produtividade e no PFT: atuação dos servidores, uso de sistemas de TI, infraestrutura e sazonalidade das atividades. Sabendo-se da importância de se ter uma estrutura adequada às características e objetivos estratégicos da instituição, o presente estudo tem como objetivo elaborar uma proposta de reestruturação organizacional ao SESC/RN, tomando como base a literatura disponível. Para o alcance desse objetivo, a pesquisa, que se classifica como exploratória e descritiva, utiliza a estratégia de estudo de caso, já que representa o estudo de uma realidade única. Dessa maneira foram entrevistados 37 responsáveis pelas diferentes Unidades Organizacionais do SESC/RN. A partir dos dados colhidos, tornou-se possível avaliar com mais profundidade os componentes da antiga Estrutura Organizacional do SESC/RN, de forma a se identificar as principais lacunas a ela relacionadas. Por fim, uma nova Estrutura Organizacional foi proposta à instituição, tomando como base o Método de Estruturação sugerido por Seiffert e Costa, e os Componentes Organizacionais de Mintzberg.
