Mit der Behandlung von Entwicklungsdisparitäten bewegt sich der geographische Unterricht in politökonomischen Zusammenhängen. Gerade im Hinblick auf die Geschichte des Fachs ist es notwendig, den Ursachenzuschreibungen dieser Disparitäten eine sensible Aufmerksamkeit zukommen zu lassen. Anhand verschiedener Schulbuchbeispiele werden ausgewählte Erklärungsansätze kritisch hinterfragt und mit einer Erhebung von Schülervorstellungen zu Gründen von Entwicklungsdisparitäten abgeglichen.
