In this instance the schedule followed during the third year of this study conforms to this requirement, for the parent can easily remember to give the tablets of penicillin orally before meals and at bedtime during the first week of every month. SUMMARY A feasible schedule of oral administration of penicillin consisting of 800,000 units daily for seven consecutive days the first week of each month throughout the school year has been shown to be effective in significantly reducing the incidence of hemolytic streptococcic infections in the throats of children who have had rheumatic fever.
