Resumo: Este artigo objetiva mapear alguns dos temas envolvidos na pesquisa sobre movimentos sociais. Partindo de questões suscitadas pela dicotomia entre novos e velhos movimentos sociais, que se difundiu nos anos 1980, elenca alguns temas centrais para o estudo da formação dos movimentos e sua relação com a sociedade e o Estado. Assim, apresenta alguns apontamentos sobre a formação do ator coletivo, contexto de mobilização e constituição de demandas, o espaço público e as interações entre movimentos sociais e Estado, transnacionalização dos movimentos sociais e suas implicações na discussão de repertórios de ação coletiva. Palavras-chave: Movimentos sociais; Ação coletiva; Espaço público.Abstract: This article intends to give an overview of some issues involved in the research of social movements based on the current literature in the Social Sciences. Having as a starting point questions raised by the dichotomy between "old" and "new" social movements, a widespread trend in the late seventies, this article focus on some central themes that have being object of attention by theorists and researchers. Therefore, it approaches questions like the process of collective actor formation, mobilizations and construction of demands, public space, interactions between the people who are mobilized and the State, and the process of transnacionalization and its effects on the analysis of collective action.
