Following a child playground equipment injury prevention project conducted in New York State in 1977, there was a 42 per cent reduction in playground equipment hazards, and a 22.4 per cent reduction in playground related injuries treated in the two largest hospitals of one of the program sites. Knowledge about unsafe playground practices and equipment hazards improved after the workshops for playground personnel. This approach to injury prevention deserves further study.
Marked changes occurred in the make-up and appearance of the Journal whose circulation has roughly doubled since he took office. For example, news items about Association activities have been substantially reduced and now appear in the monthly newspaper, The Nation's Health. This modification, which has made the Journal primarily a professional and technical publication, has had wide and favorable acceptance. The format change made in January, 1972, has improved readability, cut costs, and attracted more advertising. Possibly even more important has been the effort of the Editor to obtain contributed papers, rather than to rely solely on those read at APHA's annual meetings. This has expanded the supply ofquality manuscripts but it also has put additional burdens on the Editor. As Dr. Rosen closes out his editorship, we recognize more than ever how much the Association and all of its members are in his debt. His replacement, once selected, will recognize this in many ways.
