The molecular dynamics of tert-butyl chloride (TBC) confined in the molecular sieve MCM-41 were investigated by measuring NMR linewidths, lineshapes, and 1 H and 2 H spin-lattice relaxation times. The temperatures of phase transitions of confined TBC are different from those in bulk. The behaviour of confined TBC can be explained assuming that the guest molecules form two kinds of molecular layers, one located at the pore surface and the other at the centre of the pore.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
