In the blood of patients suffering from poisoning by alkyl phosphates the activity of serum cholincsterase is a good criterion for verifying this intoxication, especially if, in addition, the possibility of reactivation by PAI'VI is tested. In autopsy blood, however, corresponding measurements correlate poorly with the anamnesis and the toxicological analysis. Often a relatively high activity of serum cholinesterase goes along with poor reactivation by PAM, though the toxicological analysis indicate poisoning by parathion. We have therefore investigated the influence of time and temperature on the activity of human serum cholinesterase after incubation with paraoxon (c = 10 _6 In) i~ vitro. The tests proved that temperature in particular is of considerable influence on the spontaneous reactivation of serum cholinesterase and on the possibility of its reactivation by PAM. This makes it difficult to evaluate the measurements in autopsy blood. It is of the greatest importance to bring down the temperature of the specimen to about 4°C and to proceed to the examination as soon as possible.Zusammen/assung.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
