Spanking is a form of corporal punishment. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child defines spanking as a form of punishment that uses physical force with the intent to cause pain or discomfort (2007). Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines Spank (n.d.) as a verb as striking someone with an open hand (often on the buttocks; e.g., she would spank him for misbehaving). Spank as a noun is defined as the actual strike on the buttocks itself (e.g., he received a quick spank).
