Hormon tiroksin merupakan salah satu jenis hormon tiroid yang berperan penting dalam merangsang pertumbuhan dan perkembangan gonad. Sedangkan kurkumin merupakan senyawa bioaktif yang dapat meningkatkan proses reproduksi pada ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil konsentrasi hormon tiroksin dan pertumbuhan spesifik ikan uji yang diberi suplementasi kurkumin dan penyuntikan hormon tiroksin. Ikan mas betina yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 40 ekor. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap dengan faktorial 4 x 2. Faktor pertama adalah dosis kurkumin yang terdiri dari 4 konsentrasi (0; 2.5; 5; 10 g curcumin/kg feed), dan faktor kedua adalah hormon tiroksin yang terdiri dari 2 konsentrasi (0 dan 0.1 µg.g-1 bobot badan). Secara statistik data hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suplementasi kurkumin dan penyuntikan hormon tiroksin berpengaruh nyata (p<0,05) terhadap konsentrasi hormon tiroksin dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa injeksi hormon tiroksin dan suplementasi kurkumin dapat meningkatkan konsentrasi hormon tiroksin dalam serum, dan hasil ini juga menunjukkan bahwa status reproduksi ikan uji berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan konsentrasi hormon tiroksin dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik. Thyroxine hormone is one type of thyroid hormone that plays an important role in stimulating growth and gonad development. Otherwise, curcumin is a bioactive compound that can improve the process of reproduction in fish. The aim of this study is to know the profile of the thyroxine hormone concentration and specific growth of tested fish given supplementation of curcumin and injection of thyroxine hormone. 40 female carp were used in this study. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design with a 4 x 2 factorial. The first factor was the dose of curcumin (0; 2.5; 5; 10 g curcumin/kg feed), and the second factor was thyroxine hormone (0 and 0.1 µg.g-1 body weight). Statistically, showed that the supplementation of curcumin and injection of thyroxine hormone had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the concentration of the thyroxine hormone and the specific growth rate. This study showed that the injection of the thyroxine hormone and supplementation of curcumin can increase the concentration of the thyroxine concentration in serum, and these results also showed that the reproduction status of the tested fish also influenced the increase of the thyroxine hormone concentration in serum and the specific growth rate (SGR).
An experiment was designed to study the effects of curcumin and thyroxine hormone supplementation in the diet to improve the reproductive performance of catfish broodstock by improving egg quality that eventually increases the production of seedlings. Catfish used in this experiment were supplemented with curcumin and thyroxine hormone through their feeds for 12 weeks. The results showed that there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in the hepatosomatic index (HSI), gonadosomatic index (GSI), percentage of gonad maturity, total cholesterol concentration in the spawned eggs, high density lipoprotein (HDL) concentration in the spawned eggs, fertilization rate of spawned eggs, and hatching rate of fertilized eggs. However, there were significant differences (p < 0.05) in the concentration of vitellogenin in the spawned eggs, egg diameter of the spawned eggs, and the triglycerides contents of spawned eggs. It was concluded that curcumin and thyroxine supplementations of African catfish increased vitellogenin concentrations and diameters of spawned eggs that have great potential to improve the reproductive performance.
Agroindustry biomass are unlimited source for lignocellulosic ecofriendly nanocellulose fibers, with potentials as hydrophobic structural enhancers in biopolymer applications. Two major concerns in producing cellulose nano crystal (CNC); are obtaining a source not competing with food and a low-cost effective method to produce CNC. Alkali pretreatment combined with a mechanical treatment was performed on Giant Swamp Taro (GST) starch processing waste. The alkali pretreatment was useful in eliminating hemicellulose. The following disintegration process (ultrafine grinding) resulted GST CNC at the sizes of 449.6 nm to 78.26 nm. CNC results were thin flakes with fibrous network which appeared like nanowhiskers. Traces of coastal ecosystem mineral and rare elements are found in GST CNC as indicated in EDS, after all GST is a coastal plant.
Kecamatan Ratahan merupakan salah satu Kecamatan di Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara, yang berjarak sekitar 80 km dari Ibukota Propinsi Sulawesi Utara. Kondisi geografis sebagian besar wilayah Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara adalah berlereng-lereng dan banyak ditumbuhi pohon aren, sehingga kehidupan ekonomi sebagian besar masyarakat di Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara khususnya di Kecamatan Ratahan merupakan petani aren yang mengolah nira aren menjadi gula aren dan ‘cap tikus’ (cairan berkadar alkohol rata-rata 40 persen yang dihasilkan melalui penyulingan atau destilasi nira aren). Keterbatasan pengetahuan dan teknologi dari para petani aren serta nilai ekonomis cap tikus yang lebih tinggi menyebabkan petani aren lebih memilih mengolah nira aren menjadi cap tikus. Tujuan dari kegiatan IbM bagi para petani aren di Kecamatan Ratahan Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara adalah memberikan alih teknologi berupa pelatihan pengolahan kecap manis berbahan baku gula aren. Metode yang digunakan adalah berupa kegiatan kaji tindak, kegiatan dilakukan dengan memberikan contoh secara langsung penerapan teknologi fermentasi kedelai sebagai bahan baku pembuatan kecap, hingga pemberian contoh dalam proses pengolahan kecap sehingga para petani bisa memahami metode dan proses-proses pengolahan kecap berbahan baku nira aren. Kegiatan Pengabdian bagi petani aren di Desa Tousuraya, Kecamatan Ratahan Timur memberikan manfaat yaitu perolehan informasi mengenai hilirisasi aren menjadi berbagai olahan selain gula aren dan cap tikus yaitu pengolahan kecap berbahan baku gula aren.
