Abstract-This paper discusses the synthesis and characterization of new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) copolymers produced with 5-adamantylisophthalicacid monomer. Both monomer and polymer synthesis are given in detail. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis of copolymers showed decreased melt transition temperatures with increased monomer incorporation (0-5 mol%), while copolymer glass transition temperature increased slightly. Oxygen permeability was shown to increase with increased 5-adamantylisophthalicacid incorporation in the copolymers relative to virgin PET.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
