The overall rate of self-reported neurologic complications after radial artery harvest was higher than previously reported. These symptoms may be attributable to radial and median nerve injury caused by trauma and devascularization. These data have important implications not only in attempting to improve harvesting techniques but also in guiding informed consent before coronary artery bypass grafting.
Fewer deaths occurred in neonates with prenatal detection of their critical CHD requiring ENCI. However, there was no statistical difference in survival demonstrated for prenatally diagnosed neonates in this small cohort. Prenatal detection did improve preoperative clinical status and shorten hospital length of stay.
In our experience, although a prenatal diagnosis of CHD decreased the likelihood of spontaneous labor, MOD had no demonstrable impact on neonatal outcome.
Cor triatriatum sinister is a rare congenital heart defect related to incomplete common pulmonary vein resorption into the primitive heart. This lesion usually presents with pulmonary venous obstruction and can occur in association with left-sided obstructive lesions such as hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). In the context of HLHS, the presence of cor triatriatum sinister carries additional surgical and prognostic implications. Fetal diagnosis can enable appropriate counseling of the family and guide optimal peri- and postnatal management. The reported case represents the first prenatal description of cor triatriatum sinister in association with HLHS.
