Cancer is a genetic disease, and one of the main public health problems. Cancer treatments (chemotherapy and radiotherapy) have some side effects, such as mucositis, which is the inflammation of the oral mucosa, and which generates a series of discomforts, sometimes milder, sometimes more severe. One of the treatments indicated for mucositis is low-level laser therapy, which acts to reduce symptoms. The purpose of this article is to describe four protocols of laser therapy, which were applied at Hospital Santa Rita de Cássia — Vitória, and also to discuss the results that were satisfactory.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune inflammatory skin disease associated with an oral condition called benign migratory glossitis (geographical tongue). A series of light/laser with different mechanisms of action has been widely used in the last decades to treat skin psoriasis lesions. For this, the effects of phototherapy require the correct indication of the sources and parameters of light/laser in the management of different psoriatic lesions. The objective of this chapter is to update clinical knowledge on how to select light/laser sources and individual therapeutic regimens in benign migratory glossitis.
This article is based at the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma, which is characterized as a benign simple hyperplastic tumor and has an inflammatory reactive component that increases in size as a connective tissue reaction, forming a repair tissue as a protective mechanism. Clinically, pyogenic granuloma is seen as a red or purplish lesion (similar to the adjacent mucosa), too vascular, with a sessile or pedunculated base, with slow growth, reaching a size that rarely exceeds 2,5 cm, the surface of which can be rough or smooth. It occurs more frequently in adulthood, with a predominance in females (mainly during pregnancy), between the second and seventh life's decades. This aim of this paper is to report a case of pyogenic granuloma on the upper lip of a patient at the FAESA's Dental Clinic.
