Being a climacteric fruit, the caja harvested still green has uneven ripening. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ripening techniques aiming to promote a uniform ripening and reduction of quality loss in caja-manga fruits. The treatments resulted from the application of four ripening techniques (control, muffled, ethrel, and calcium carbide) and they were evaluated in 5 times, with 3 days intervals, for 12 days (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 days). The fruits were evaluated physico-chemically with respect to soluble solids, titratable acidity, ratio, firmness, and color. Although, all treatments promoted the fruit ripening, ethrel showed homogenous and consistent fruit characteristics with ripening reactions in 6 days, being considered the best treatment. It showed intense yellow color (85 Hue), weight loss of about 5% compared to other treatments and tissue softening (29 N firmness) and increase in soluble solids (Brix 11°).
Tangerines have been gaining more and more market share, sharing space with oranges, showing themselves as a strong economic factor, mainly due to consumer preference for this product. However, studies are needed that can maintain the post-harvest quality of the fruit in an economical and efficient way. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate physically and chemically the fruits of the 'Dekopon' tangerine variety, analyzing the influence of the presence and absence of processing and ultraviolet C (UVC) radiation, combined with three different packages under passive modified atmosphere (control , LDPE and EPS + PVC). The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design (DIC) and 3 replications, using a 2x2x3x5 factorial scheme, with the presence and absence of beneficiation, application of 0 and 10 minutes of UVC radiation, passive modified atmosphere (control, LDPE, EPS + PVC) and days of analysis (0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days), respectively. The data originated from the analyzes were submitted to analysis of variance (P <0.05), and when significant, the Scott-Knott means comparison test was performed at 5% probability. It is concluded that the beneficiation did not act in a beneficial way, while the association between ultraviolet light and passive modified atmosphere acted in maintaining the post-harvest attributes at room temperature.
The mandarins have made possible a great increase in the production due to diverse cultural treatments, potentializing the increase of the production and reduction of the losses. However, studies are needed that can maintain post-harvest quality and increase in the field. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate physically and chemically the ‘Dekopon’ tangerine fruits, analyzing the influence of the application of Calcium Chloride in 100, 200, 300, 400% of the recommended dosage, in addition to the control. The fruit samples were extracted from an experimental orchard in the municipality of Anápolis-GO and the analyzes were performed in the EMATER-GO laboratory. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) composed of five doses of Calcium Chloride, three replicates during four weeks of evaluation (0, 7, 14 and 21 days), respectively, and the variables evaluated were submitted to polynomial regression analysis depending on the weeks. In this experiment were evaluated: loss of mass, coloration, soluble solids, titratable acidity and texture. The data originated from the analyzes were submitted to regression analysis by means of an F test at the probability level of 5%, to measure the meaning of the proposed model. It was concluded that the use of Calcium Chloride in most variables did not act positively in the post-harvest maintenance of fruit quality. However, it may be noted that desirable characteristics were observed in other post-harvest variables for applications of 100 and 200% of the recommended dosage during 21 days of evaluation.
Dekopon is a seedless tangor of expressive size and its harvest is not the same as Ponkan’s, which has been the most commercialized cultivar. The aim of this study was to characterize physico-chemically and sensorially this tangor, through evaluations of soluble solids, acidity, ratio, vitamin C, diameter, peel thickness, firmness, juice volume and sensory impressions on taste, appearance, aroma, texture, overall impression and purchase intention. High levels of vitamin C and the volume of juice which correspond to about 50% of the weight of the fruit stood out regarding the chemical attributes. Most of the scores attributed to 'Dekopon' were above 6.0 and the ones of purchase intention were above 3.0. The fruit can be considered promising to be commercialized due to its good characteristics.
