Well-defined locations of pemphigus cases support the hypothesis of environmental factors' involvement in its etiopathogenesis; however, these foci have never been described using specialized geographical tools. This is the first report to geo-reference pemphigus cases in a high-prevalence Brazilian region using geographic information systems. We aimed to report the spatio-temporal behavior of pemphigus foliaceus (PF) and vulgaris (PV) in southeastern Brazil, over the last five decades to describe geographical clusters, as well as to characterize the land use in the city with the highest number of cases. Patients were identified from 1965 to 2014. Maps were developed using ArcGIS software and organized into decades from 1965 to 2014. Ribeirão Preto was identified as the city with the greatest number of cases. Land use was analyzed within a 2 km-buffer surrounding the residence of each patient. A total of 426 cases of pemphigus were identified. PF was the predominant form (285 cases); notwithstanding, the number of new cases of PV rose, overtaking the number of new cases of PF in the last decade studied. Agricultural area (42%) and exposed soil (33.2%) are the most predominant land uses in Ribeirão Preto surrounding patients' residences. This study shows high-confidence geographical foci of PF and PV, as well as provides evidence of an increase of both clinical forms over the last five decades. All cases of PV and PF are in proximity to rivers and agricultural areas which reinforce the hypothesis that environmental factors play a role in pemphigus etiopathogenesis.
A compreensão do processo de expansão das atividades antrópicas, em bacias hidrográficas, se mostra fundamental nos dias atuais. No que tange ao problema da contaminação das águas subterrâneas, a análise do uso e cobertura do solo existente e das variáveis do meio físico podem auxiliar na compreensão e gestão desta problemática. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo elaborar a carta de potencial de contaminação de aquíferos por atividades humanas na bacia hidrográfica do Ribeirão do Meio (Leme, SP), abrangendo uma área de 246,81 km 2 na escala 1:50.000. A produção da carta englobou a análise do mapa de substrato geológico, a elaboração da carta de unidades aquíferas, da carta de declividades e de uso e cobertura do solo. Com o uso do software ArcGIS® e de uma metodologia de análise multicritério, chegou-se a uma classificação do potencial de contaminação envolvendo cinco classes (muito baixo, baixo, médio, alto e muito alto). No caso específico desta área, verificou-se que as classes de potencial médio (47,71%) e muito baixo (33,68%), foram mais representativas.

RESUMOA análise das paisagens em seu contexto geográfico local e regional, tanto quanto os estudos das estruturas tipicamente urbanas ecológicas são essenciais para o estabelecimento de formas de crescimento compatíveis com as metas de desenvolvimento sustentável. Essa realidade revela a importância de um planejamento adequado do território. Desta forma, o presente estudo teve o objetivo de avaliar a vulnerabilidade ambiental em São Carlos-SP. Foram utilizados Sistemas de Informações Geográficas (SIGs) para mapear o uso e cobertura da terra, a declividade, a geologia e a pedologia, os quais deram suporte para aplicação do índice de Vulnerabilidade ambiental. As classes de baixa vulnerabilidade ambiental correlacionaram-se com as áreas de menores riscos aos efeitos da ocupação antrópica e as classes de alta vulnerabilidade ambiental correlacionaram-se com as áreas de altos riscos aos efeitos da ocupação antrópica. O grau de vulnerabilidade ambiental identificou principalmente valores baixos e médios de vulnerabilidade. O balanceamento dos pesos atribuídos as diferentes características da paisagem contribuíram de forma correlacionar os diversos compartimentos da paisagem sem considerar que uma ou outra característica possuiu maior influência em sua vulnerabilidade ambiental. As características ambientais de São Carlos contribuem para seu estado de vulnerabilidade que é potencializada principalmente pelas características econômicas ligadas as atividades agrícolas existentes na região.Palavras chave: Análise de paisagens; conservação dos recursos naturais; ecologia de paisagem; São Carlos -SP; Vulnerabilidade ambiental. ABSTRACTThe analysis of landscapes in their local and regional geographic context, as well as the studies of typically urban and ecological structures are essential for the establishment of forms of growth compatible with the goals of sustainable development. This reality reveals the importance of proper land planning. Thus, the present study had the objective of evaluating the environmental vulnerability in São Carlos-SP. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used to map the use and land cover, slope, geology and pedology, which supported the application of the Vulnerability Index. The classes of low environmental vulnerability correlated with the areas of lower risks to the effects of anthropic occupation and the classes of high environmental vulnerability correlated with areas of high risks to the effects of anthropic occupation. The balance of the weights attributed to the different characteristics of the landscape contributed in a way to correlate the various compartments of the landscape without considering that one or another characteristic has a greater influence on its environmental vulnerability. The degree of environmental vulnerability identified mainly low and average values of vulnerability.
