Magnetorheological elastomers (MRE) are mainly composed of soft magnetic particles and rubber-like matrix. Previous studies have shown that the matrix has a greater impact on mechanical properties of MRE. In this article, a new kind of polyurethane material was fabricated and used as the matrix of MRE. The effect of several factors on the mechanical properties of MRE samples was experimentally studied, such as fabrication condition, content of iron particles, different weight ratio of castor oil and diphenylmethane diisocyanate, plasticizer. Their microstructures were observed, and the mechanical properties were measured using a testing system in the presence of an external magnetic field. The experimental results demonstrate that these factors have different impact on shear storage modulus, magneto-induced modulus, MR effect and damping property. In addition, the damping property of these MRE is also higher than that of MRE based on the other matrix. This study can hopefully be applied to optimize the mechanical properties of MRE. POLYM. Two novel kinds of slim FBG (Fiber Bragg Gratiug) sensor devices and their application are presented, which can show the three-dimensional image of colonoscope shape on a video screen. One of the two kiuds of seusor device is for gradual detection; the other is for real-lime dynamic reconstruction. The sensing network device comprises a plurality of FBG sensors mounted on the body of a flexible wire. After the colonoscope is advanced in the body, the wire is pusbed through the biopsy channel of. the colonoscope. It bends with the curvature of the colonoscope. The FBG sensors capture deformation of the sensor wire, and reconstruct the shape of coIonoscope. Experiments in the colon of a live swine have been done. Configuration of experimental system and experimental result are also giveu.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
