This study aims to analyze the students' perceptions in using YouTube as online English learning media during the Covid-19 pandemic. at grade XI of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. The aspects of students’ perception cover attractiveness, effectiveness, relevancy, and motivation. These aspects are seen in students’ learning experiences in classes. The research subjects include students in class XI PMIA 6 and XI PMIA 7 at SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. The data are collected using qualitative research methods, namely the type of basic interpretive studies where the data are obtained using a questionnaire distributed to students in the form of a Google Form. The result of data analysis shows that most students gave a positive response to each statement in each aspect of the questionnaire given. Based on the research results obtained, this study can be concluded that the use of YouTube as an online English learning medium is attractive, effective, and relevant to the course content. It also motivates students in English online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic grade XI of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar.
Schools must recognize that school culture has an effect on the development of character in students. With the prevalence of numerous character flaws among students, it is expected that through school culture, students will be able to form their character through a school-based habit. Teachers at SMK Swasta Teladan in Tanah Jawa, Simalungun Regency, were the recipients of this community service. Thirty-three teachers were among those who took part in the socialization. This was a qualitative research project with a descriptive approach. The approaches used in this case are lectures and group discussions, with information being given first, followed by a question and answer session about the material. After having all methods provided, the results of the socialization through the school culture implementation possibly to be implemented to support the character education were: 1) cultivating religious tolerance values, 2) The implementation of school ceremonies, 3) implementation of working groups (PokJa) in schools, 4) The use of student-centered learning (student-oriented learning) during the learning process, 5) Using scouts in schools for students’ training to be more independent, and the last was prizes should be granted to students including all areas events, not only for academic areas. Last but not least, the role of school culture really can strengthen and support the character education for the students.
This research aims to find out the students’ achievement by using HOTS as learning strategy in reading comprehension at grade VIII of SMP Yayasan Perguruan Keluaraga Pematangsiantar. The aspect of students’ achievement overwhelming, remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. These aspects were seen in Descriptive text. The research subject belongs to students in class VIIIA and VIIIB. The data are collected using qualitative method, namely the type of basic interpretative studies in which the data obtained used questionnaires to the student in the form of a Google form. In collecting data questionnaires were shared to 65 respondents. It was used to describe the topic related to the phenomenon happen in reading comprehension through HOTS. The research findings highlight C1-C6 phase which almost of students gave positive response to each statement of criteria HOTS. The achievement in six aspects of reading comprehension used HOTS, they are remembering text with strongly agree scale 58,4%, understanding supporting sentence with strongly agree 50,2%, applying decoding process with agree scale 49,2%, analyzing main ideas with strongly agree 50,2%, evaluating inference with agree scale 51,7%, and creating new ideas with agree scale 53,3%.
This activity is a community service activity in the form of socializing the importance of digital literacy in today's era. The purpose of implementing this webinar activity is to add insight in the application of digital literacy for educators and students in the digital era. This community service was conducted by presentation by zoom online with question and answers sessions for participants. This activity was held on September 10, 2021 online using the Zoom Meeting Application. This activity is a series of activities organized by KOMINFO and this activity was carried out in Pematangsiantar city via online which was attended by approximately 150 participants from various professions such as students, teachers, students, and parents. Through the implementation of this activity, the researchers hope that participants can be helped, especially in terms of education in the digital era. Participants gained an understanding of the critical nature of digital literacy in the modern era, as information technology and digital media can have both positive and negative consequences. Assumptions are considered in order to provide socialization and guidance to teachers in order to help them improve and develop their digital literacy skills, ensuring that the transformation of educational development proceeds smoothly and in accordance with the times' dynamics. It is not simple to develop a child's character. Formal education combined with a good value planting method can help students learn more effectively and shape their personalities. Families, schools, communities, government, and the media all share responsibilities for children's education and character development. The family is the first and most important environment in which children's personalities are formed. The formation of personality Education in schools is an important element of the school's efforts to meet parents' expectations of developing, moulding, and establishing excellent character in their children. Integration and synergy between education in the home (informal) and education at school are required to build and develop children's character (formal). The combination of informal and formal education is hoped to build a good character for students’ especially for the human resources. As we know that Indonesian is rich of natural resources while the human resource’s aspect is a problem. The problem can be solved by enhancing the character of strong human capital based on the Indonesian nation's character through various forms of education (formal, informal, and non-formal) and at various levels of education (ranging from primary, secondary, and tertiary education).
