The Main Injector project at Fermilab requires B dipole with good field quality from 0.1 T to 1.73 T with ramps to full field at up to 2.4 T/s over an aperture of 10x6 cm. Op e&ion of this magnet for the variety of purposa proposed for the Main lqjector results in a design with low indnctame, large copper cnm metion, and fidd uniformity sufficient for high intensity iqjection and efficient slow resonant extraction. The resulting design is presented, along with meaauremcnt results of a prototype magnet emphasiring the field uniformity.
Measurements of more than 1000 new magnets are needed for the Main Injector Project at Fermilab. In order to achieve efficiency and accuracy in measurements, we chose a datsbsse driven design for control of the measurement system. We will use a relational database to describe the measurement subjects and equipment. A logbook system defined in the database will provide for prescription of measurements to be carried out, description of mearurr mats aa they are carried out, and a comment database for less structured information.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
