Abstract. Direct solar irradiance can be calculated from global and diffuse horizontal irradiance measurements. However diffuse irradiance values need to be corrected because the pyranometer's shadowband does obstruct not only the solar disk but also a larger part of the sky. This correction is necessary in order to calculate more accurately direct irradiance when not directly measured. In this work we study the impact of these corrections on calculated normal direct irradiance under different sky conditions.
