The paper aims to bring out the problems and prospects of the professional development opportunities of academic library professionals in the Universities in Kerala. The study is a part of research undertaken to survey the professional development activities and educational needs of library professionals in the major Universities of Kerala because of the developments in Information communication technology. The study recommends methods for improving the knowledge/skills of library professionals. The aim of the study is to evaluate the professional development activities of Library professionals and their attitude towards continuing education programmes. In order to achieve the objectives of the study a survey was conducted with the help of structured questionnaires distributed to 203 library professionals in seven major universities in Kerala, (South India) of which 185 questionnaires were returned. Results of the analysis show that majority of the professionals have pursued higher degrees in library science or IT allied courses after entering the profession, and that they have a positive attitude towards participation in training programmes and workshops. The results show that developments in ICT have a positive influence on majority of library professionals' attitude towards continuing education programmes.
This paper aims to discuss the significance of e-resources on scientometrics study. Tools for scientometric analysis are listed out. Data collected from literature search and website of softwares. Citation tracking tools like Web of science, Scopus and Google Scholar citations, CiteseerX etc., are discussed. Various software tools for bibliometric analysis like Bibexcel, CiteSpace, Histcite, Pajek, Publish or Perish, Scholarometer, VOS viewer-tool for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks, CitNet explorer – tool for visualizing and analysing citation networks of publications etc are discussed, The study concludes that combination of different software tools can be used for complete scientometric analysis and the familiarization of bibliometric software among students and researchers will help to promote research in scientometrics in a more productive method.
A newspaper library is a significant provider of various information sources needed for the media professionals. Librarians working in newspaper libraries have to play an outstanding role to pace with the changing scenario. The transformation of newspaper archives from print to digital is a noteworthy initiative by newspaper libraries. The paper presents a digital archiving initiative by newspaper libraries. It points out the need, purpose, and advantages of digital news archives. The paper also highlights the IT infrastructure facilities used and shares the challenges faced by librarians in the process of digital archiving.
Newspapers play a vital role in the dissemination of information. A newspaper library is a repository of information required by the journalists, administrative and management staffs. The newspaper libraries are in the process of digital archiving in order to preserve the news and views for future. The article highlights the study conducted among journalists working with leading Malayalam newspapers in Kozhikode /district, Kerala. The study reveals the need and importance of digital archiving of newspapers and also the utilisation of library sources and services.
The study analyzes the Marine drugs research output from the year 1989-2017. The data was downloaded from the Web of Science maintained by Thomson Reuters. The findings of the study revealed that the highest number of TLCS and TGCS witnessed in the year 2010 i.e. 1131 (9.63%) and 10381 (7.29%). The study shows that a major source of publication in Marine Drugs research comes in the form of articles and India with 416 records ranked the third position among the country-wise distribution of records.
