A theoretical treatment of nuclear relaxation in non-metallic diamagnetic crystals with a magnetic impurity is carried out for the case when the dipole-dipole reservoir of magnetic ions plays an important role. The theoretical results are compared with the data of the Leiden group on relaxation of protons in lanthanum magnesium nitrate with neodymium impurities. An elementary theory of NMR saturation is given taking into account saturation transfer from the nuclear Zeeman reservoir to the dipole-dipole reservoir of magnetic ions. A special analysis is made of the possible role in nuclear relaxation of an inhomogeneous broadening of the EPR line, of a phonon bottleneck in the spin-lattice relaxation of magnetic ions, and of exchange pairs.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
