Background:The effector T cell LFA-1 integrin is important for migration and effector functions. Results: Effector T cell LFA-1 integrin is highly expressed, spontaneously binds ligand, and mediates rapid actin-and calmodulin-dependent adhesion strengthening. Conclusion: LFA-1 in effector T cells binds ligand spontaneously, but firm adhesion requires integrin signaling. Significance: LFA-1 is regulated differently in naïve and effector lymphocytes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
