The Raman, infrared, and n.m.r. spectra of solutions of silver nitrate in acetonitrile (up to 9.0 M AgN03) are reported and compared with the spectra of the pure components (silver nitrate as the fused salt). The spectral data indicate that strong solute-solvent interactions take place in these solutions; it is suggested that a complex ion of formula Ag-(CH&N)z+ is present. In all solutions a clear splitting of the degenerate stretching vibration of the nitrate ion is observed. This splitting is also found for the molten silver nitrate and indicates the existence of strong ion-ion interactiom.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
