Hydraulic model studies can be employed to study the functioning of a hydraulic structure or a machine. In this work, a physical model study was conducted for an existing Lower Mettur Barrage Power House in Tamil Nadu State to simulate the intake canals where there was a vortex problem, reducing the net available head and consequently the power generation. Various trials of the possible alterations to intake canals were attempted and the final feasible one was evolved and validated.
