A comprehensive real-time operational surveillance enables a detailed statistical breakdown of rig's activities to be gathered within an operation, enabling operators to accurately measure operational efficiency and flagging potential down time events. PETRONAS has embarked on this initiative since 2010 with the implementation of a surveillance monitoring centre known as Smart Drilling Optimisation Monitoring Centre (Smart DOMC). This paper describes the process and benefits of streaming down the rigs operational information and data on a real-time basis to the monitoring centre.Smart DOMC has become a centre of excellence for domestic knowledge sharing, exchanging information, database of best practices, systematic troubleshooting and applied technologies as well as capturing lessons learnt. Smart DOMC is monitoring all PETRONAS operations, which encompasses almost all facets of drilling operations including offshore operations, deep water, high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) and carbonate drilling. These complex operations must be monitored, supported and sustained via robust infrastructures and competent personnel. To ensure a reliable quantitative data, high-resolution tools and sensors (surface and downhole) must be installed at the rig site for automatic data generation and transmission to the Smart DOMC. Data obtained is subsequently analyzed to produce reports related to wellbore integrity, formation evaluation, bottomhole assembly (BHA) performance, and drilling efficiency. Proprietary software is used to transform digital data into presentable graphical formats for further evaluation and data storage purposes.Recent drilling campaigns by PETRONAS in offshore peninsular Malaysia were among the examples of PETRONAS campaigns, which utilised Smart DOMC's expertise. These projects bring about a total cost savings of approximately USD 30 -50 million by eliminating invisible lost time (ILT) and potential non-productive time (NPT) events and implementing efficient drilling practices. In this paper, SDK case history is presented as an actual example of sucesssful implemention of Smart DOMC.
